Publica Group is pleased to announce the appointment of its new Managing Director; Jan Britton.
Joining on 1 October, Jan will work alongside David Neudegg (who remains in place as Managing Director until the end of 2019), before assuming full responsibility from the start of 2020.
Jan brings with him almost 30 years of experience and achievement, gained through a varied career within local government.
After starting with Barking and Dagenham Borough Council’s planning team in 1991, Jan found his niche in leisure and environmental services and, following a number of roles in three other councils, joined his most recent employer - Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council- in 2006. There he led the Environment team before moving on to Urban Regeneration in 2009, being promoted to Chief Executive in 2010, where he remained until stepping down earlier this month.
During Jan’s tenure at Sandwell, the authority went through a substantial period of change, including the significant impact of austerity on the sector and the devolution initiative within the West Midlands region.
Commenting on the appointment, Chair of Publica’s Board David Brooks, said: “We attracted an extremely strong field of candidates for this role and I am delighted it has enabled us to appoint someone with such a wide range of essential skills to the Managing Director position.
“Jan has a strong appreciation of the demands of running local services and was able to demonstrate clear ability in partnership working and managing significant change and transformation. He has an approachable, open nature with good people skills; features we particularly value at Publica.
“He was the unanimous choice of our selection panel, which included all four of our respective council leaders, and I am looking forward to working with him as he brings new ideas to our transformation program as we continue our evolution as an organisation.”
Jan Britton added: “Publica presents me with a fresh opportunity within local government and I’m really excited to be joining an ambitious organisation which is taking the opportunity to transform the way local services are delivered; offer wider career opportunities for its staff; and make an impact nationally. I look forward to meeting the staff, councillors, customers and other stakeholders over the coming months.”
