About the role…

You will be joining a dedicated and professional team who help to keep traffic flowing across our district. Though you are part of a team, each day you will be making your own decisions in a variety of situations. The job has its challenges but dealing with these brings the reward of knowing that you have done a good job and that you are making a real difference and offering an important benefit to the community.

You will find yourself in regular contact with members of the public who will be asking for your help with many different questions, not just about parking, but also about where places and attractions are and how to get there. A commitment to providing great customer service and good communication skills are essential.

Though you will be part of a fully supported team who you will have direct communications with throughout the day, generally you will be patrolling by yourself, on foot or in a vehicle and you will need to be resilient and comfortable with working on your own initiative. When on foot, you will cover a number of miles each day, so you will need to have a reasonable level of fitness.

As one of our Parking Enforcement Officers you will:

  • Enforce the parking restrictions on the roads and in the off-street car parks, to reduce dangerous and inconsiderate parking;
  • Provide information to the public of appropriate parking facilities and directions for local amenities;
  • Keep unauthorised vehicles out of bus stops, taxi ranks and disabled parking spaces;
  • Provide a regular turnover of limited wait parking spaces to give other users the opportunity to park;
  • Be in charge of issuing penalty charge notices to contravening vehicles gathering evidence through written notes and photographs using a handheld computer
  • Work on a 2 week rota system including every other Saturday

You will need…

  • Must have current driving license and the ability to meet travelling needs of the role, including driving company vehicles.
  • Secondary school qualifications to include maths and English
  • Basic computer skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Customer focused and the ability to deal with people
