Awards recognition for Publica

Staff at Publica have been praised after reaching the finals of a major awards scheme.

The business, which provides services to local communities on behalf of their local council, was shortlisted in the Best Service Delivery Model category of the LGC awards 2019.

Cllr James Mills, Leader of West Oxfordshire District Council, said: “This is a fantastic achievement by our staff and further proof that the Publica model is delivering innovation and efficiencies across our four partner councils.

“The company is still developing but already we are seen as a genuine alternative in the effort to improve local services against a backdrop of long-term financial challenges.”

Established in November 2017, Publica aims to facilitate savings, create efficiencies, improve resilience and create capacity to support the drive towards service improvements and wider social and economic benefits in each locality.

It currently delivers services on behalf of West Oxfordshire District Council, Cotswold District Council, Forest of Dean District Council and Cheltenham Borough Council.

Together, the councils are expecting to cut around £5.6 million per year by 2020 and £41 million over the next 10 years.
